Accessibility

Most people who use this website serve on an association board, and many of them are reading from a phone or a laptop at arm’s length. We want the site to work for all of them, including those who use a screen reader, navigate by keyboard, or enlarge text.

The standard we aim for

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, version 2.1, at Level AA. We treat that as a target we design and build toward, and we describe it that way rather than claiming a formal certification.

What we have done

• Text and background color combinations were measured for contrast. Small pink text uses a deeper shade of our brand pink so that it stays readable on white and on our sand panels.
• Body text is set at a comfortable size in a regular weight. We avoid thin or condensed type.
• Every page can be operated with a keyboard alone, and whichever element you are on is marked with a visible outline.
• Headings, lists, tables and form labels use real HTML structure, so screen readers announce them correctly.
• Every form field has a label that stays visible as you type, and validation errors appear as text rather than being signaled by color alone.
• Images that carry meaning have text alternatives. Purely decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
• The video on the homepage has captions, and its full transcript sits on the page so you can read it without pressing play.
• Motion respects the reduce motion setting in your operating system. With that setting turned on, content appears without animation.
• Layouts reflow for small screens and for visitors who enlarge text in the browser.

Known limitations

• The captions on our video are lightly edited for readability, so a few words read differently from the spoken audio.
• The software screens shown on the homepage are illustrations. The figures in them are sample data and are labeled as such.
• If we add tools built by other companies in future, such as a scheduling widget or a map, we may have limited control over their accessibility.

If you run into a barrier on this website, please tell us. Describe the page you were on and what happened, and we will look into it and reply within five business days. Where we cannot fix something quickly, we will offer another way for you to get the same information or complete the same task.
